Video Transcript for “2019 Nest 16U By Airstream | Pete’s RV Rough Cuts”
Karl Raacke: Hey campers, Karl from Pete’s RV Center here. Today we are taking a look at a very special unit. This is the 2019 Nest by Airstream. This is a whole new take from Airstream on the RV. So, let’s take a look at it, see what it has to offer. As you can tell, it’s not the classic silver bullet style that you normally get from Airstream. This is a more modern look. This is a [00:00:30] semi-molded fiberglass monocoque body.
So you do have two-toned paint on it. You’ve got the white down below. They do go with a gray up top here. It does kind of give that little reminiscent feel of the aluminum that the silver bullet Airstreams normally do give. Of course, you have that really big wraparound front automotive style windshield there. That’s going to let in plenty of light, so when you’re hanging out, sitting either at the dinette or laying in bed, you’re going to have plenty of sunlight coming in, and it’s really just going [00:01:00] to open up and make the whole area feel much nicer.
Down below here, you do have your molded nose cone up front. It’s good to hold a single propane tank, a 20 pound LP tank. You do have, also, solar plug in. It’s solar plug in ready up front here as well, and down below you do notice you do have the LP port as well for that little propane grill.
As you make your way down the side, this is a smaller unit. This is a 16U, [00:01:30] so it does have a U dinette in it. It’s only about 18 to 19 feet overall in length. So, you’ll notice, up above me you have this large power awning. You have an LED light strip in it, and this push of a button, in and out, very quick, very quiet, it’s a really great feature to have.
Down below, you’ve got 16 inch aluminized styled, or aluminum styled wheels and with Goodyear rubber on those. Of course, Goodyear is one of the [00:02:00] best names in the industry come the RV world, so of course Airstream’s going to go along with it. I do like how Airstream does brand this. It is the Nest by Airstream, not the Airstream Nest, so it’s a sub brand. This is a whole new take, like I said, and they give it this really nice, I like how they just put the name there on the side.
Danielle, I want to have you swing around and check this out. So, unlike a majority of RVs, on the backside of the RV [00:02:30] here is where your entrance door is. So you do get a very heavy duty shut to it, really nice thing to have. You see you’ve got your LED flood light, you have a lit up grab bar. You can lock your door down back here, that way of course, if you want to leave it open, get the extra air, you can. You even have a little screen door here as well, so if you do want to, like I said, let that extra air flow in and not have to deal with the bugs or mosquitoes, anything like that, that’s at the campsite, it’s not a problem.
[00:03:00] So now that we’ve kind of taken a look at the whole outside of the 16U Nest, let’s head on inside and see what it has to offer.
First off, Danielle, I want you to focus in on this. I’m going to point out, Airstreams already equip this, you’ve got a couple of key or coat holders, whatever you need it for, they’ve got that for you. As you come on in, you’ll notice the bathroom is on this side, so you do have a full 180 degree swing door. There’s plenty of room in here. It’s a nice little [00:03:30] step in. I’m six foot tall, I fit in here really well. You’ve got a little shelf down here to keep any of your extra toiletries, as you can see, your toilet paper is in there as well. Some little spots here to keep like a toothbrush, a nice little vanity mirror, and a very ergonomically designed shower head. This way it gives you just a little bit extra room, so that way you don’t have to duck to get your head underneath the water.
So now, we’ll swing this door shut, [00:04:00] and as we make our way through, you’ll notice there’s plenty of storage for such a small unit. So, you do have very deep drawers, of course, from Airstream, that handmade silverware organizer. More drawers and whatnot underneath, cabinetry. You do have the sink cover here, very heavy duty. It can double as a cutting board if you’d like it. That stainless steel Steel Queen sink to go along with it. You’ve got hideaway 110 [00:04:30] and USB plug ins here, so if you don’t need them right away, or you don’t need to plug anything in, put it away, it’s not going to be getting in the way.
Two burner cooktop. You do have, of course, the folding cover for it, so once again, extend your counter space or it makes a nice little splash guard for you, that way when you’re cooking up some bacon in the morning, you’re not getting the grease everywhere. As you go up, you do notice you do have blackout shades all throughout the entire unit, so because there are [00:05:00] plenty of windows here, you want to be able to shut the light out come nighttime for you to get some shuteye.
Over head storage here, you can see, of course, your Airstream bag here with all of your owners’ information of course. And the overhead storage continues as well. As you notice, you’ve got convenient little storage here for some of the easier things, some little bungees to hold it in. That’s one, two, and three here as well. Of course, you’ve got the sliding curtains as [00:05:30] well, some reading lights there. This interior here is the Clutch interior. This is a very vibrant blue. I really am a fan of it. It looks absolutely beautiful.
This is where the real changes are, though, with the Nest. So, you can either get what you see here, a collapsible U dinette, or you can get a permanent front bed. So that’s really going to be the only difference with it. Other than that, what they’re going to do is if you go with the front bed, [00:06:00] they’re going to change this countertop here out for a little sitting area with a swing out table that way you still are able to sit on the bed and enjoy a nice meal.
So now that we’ve kind of taken a look at the unit this way, we’re going to swing around so you can see what it, else it has to offer. Now that we’ve taken a look at one half of the Nest, let’s take a look at the other. So of course you do have the countertop here. More storage. I know I always hammer storage in these videos, but you can never have [00:06:30] enough storage when you’re out camping. And Airstream has thought that through using the space as efficiently as possible.
You’ve got plenty of plugins here, whether it’s 110, USB, you’ve got some connections up higher here for a TV if you want to get one set up. You’ll notice below here you do have some controls. So this will do your awning, your lights, and this one here, you’ll notice the power button not on, but the lights are on. When we push that button, the lights turn off but this illuminates. Airstream’s thought that out, that way you’re [00:07:00] not going to be fumbling around in the dark or anything like that, when you’re actually looking to turn the lights on.
As we make our way back, you will see here the mini fridge. It’s got a stainless steel or a brushed aluminum look to it. Of course, typical Airstream, you do have a separate freezer on this as well and this will stay nice and cold for your entire camping trip. Just below that you do have your microwave here by Contoure, brand name, [00:07:30] really good to have, and down below here, nice and easy access from the main door is your fuses, your battery disconnect, everything like that, so when you do finally get to the site and all set up, plugged in, flick that switch, you’re going to be golden.
Across from the bathroom here, Airstream has figured the floor plan of the Nest to have a closet, so you do have a place to put some shoes down below there, and then into the main wardrobe area whether it’s dresses, pants, [00:08:00] shirts, coats. You’ve got your own light in here, and then another storage area right up top.
This is the Nest by Airstream. It is a 16U. If you want to take a look at this unit and others like it, please feel free to get in touch with us here at Pete’s RV Center.
