For the first time in 92 years, northern Vermonters will have the opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse.

On Monday, April 8th at 2:14 pm, a partial solar eclipse will begin. Starting at 3:26 pm and continuing for about 3 minutes, a total eclipse will occur as the Moon blocks the Sun entirely as it passes between the Sun and Earth. A partial eclipse will take place until 4:37 pm.

During the total solar eclipse, the afternoon sky will be rendered as dark as dusk—unless April showers are in store, then cloudy skies may become as dark as midnight.

If you plan to observe this special phenomenon, be sure to grab a pair of certified handheld solar viewers—glasses with solar filters that allow you to safely view the eclipse.

Vermont will not be in the path of totality again until 2106, making this a once in a lifetime event for those who have the opportunity to witness it!
