Airstreamers of Fame: Matthew McConaughey's Airstream Dreams

In the first installment of our Airstreamers of Fame series leading up to the opening of the anticipated Airstream Heritage Center in Jackson Center, Ohio, let’s have a look at actor Matthew McConaughey’s customized Airstream travel trailer.
McConaughey’s 2004 International CCD is parked seaside in Malibu, and it’s where he managed his production company out of for two years, and lived in for four years more while traveling across America. He has since ordered two more Airstreams, and envisions “One day I’ll have either an Airstream hotel or an Airstream compound. I don’t know where it’ll be yet, but the thing about Airstreams is you feel a little bad for ’em if you got ’em parked too long and the axles aren’t spinning, you know, because they’re built for the road,” the actor told Architectural Digest.
Matthew McConaughey named his famous first Airstream Canoe, inspired by his trip to the Indigenous Squamish Nation in Canada. The Ford F-150 pictured here that he used to tow it was called Eagle.
Canoe’s interior was crafted for McConaughey’s busy lifestyle, and similarly filled with movie memorabilia.
His passion for the brand was something he spread among his colleagues, putting the crew of his 2008 movie Surfer, Dude into 14 Airstream trailers in a Malibu RV park. In 2005, he decked out his own Airstream with posters for another of his movies, Sahara, for a promotional tour.
Clearly, Matthew McConaughey maximizes life on the road. Hopefully he’ll one day complete his dream of opening an Airstream compound for the world to see.
