The iconic aluminum look of Airstream Travel Trailers are a beautiful sight on the road and the campground. But trying to tow your beloved Airstream through a carwash just won’t do! Here are some important tips for washing and cleaning the outside of your Airstream the right way.
Airstreams are often considered an easier vehicle to wash because you don’t need a ton of different products to get the job done. A simple marine/auto wash and RV super sealant are all you need.
For an effective wash, mix one ounce of marine/auto wash into one gallon of water, and spread all over the Airstream. Wait a minute, and then hose it all off with water.
Don’t forget to clean the roof of your Airstream! A soft brush extension will enable you to reach the entire roof without climbing up there.
After all washing is done, dry with a microfiber towel, going with the grain of the metal. When toweling off the super sealant or even just drying off your Airstream, examine the grain of the metal on the vehicle and wipe with it, not against it. If the grain goes sideways, don’t wipe up and down. This will prevent scratching.
Once your Airstream is all dry, the sealant process begins. You can put the super sealant directly on a towel, or use a spray bottle, as long as the sealant is well mixed into a pink color. Sealant takes a few minutes to dry. When a dry haze shows, buff it out with a fresh microfiber towel.
