The Green Mountain state doesn’t have such a luscious nickname for no reason. Vermont is full of outdoor adventures, from its famous skiing to hiking, mountain biking, and of course, camping. Some of the best RV camping spots in the state are on islands, mountains, and even next to a gorge.

Apple Island Resort is “the premier RV Resort on the Champlain Islands”, offering golfing, boating, fishing, & every imaginable activity for the outdoor enthusiast. Located in South Hero, Vermont on the Champlain Islands, it offers plenty of picturesque parking spots with beautiful views of Lake Champlain.

Mountain View Campground sits on the Lamoille River in the mountains just outside of famous Stowe, Vermont. There are several breweries and mountains in the area for days of fun, but the campground itself also has kayak and tubing rentals for fun on the water, along with an adults only hot tub.

The Quechee / Pine Valley KOA is located just three miles from the Quechee Gorge, a 165 foot deep tourist attraction and state park politely deemed “Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon” with hiking trails on both sides, and a quaint small town nearby.

Button Bay State Park is another campground on Lake Champlain, this time in Ferrisburgh, Vermont, conveniently located near the Charlotte ferry to New York and just 30 minutes from Burlington, Vermont. The park has a large pavilion available to rent, along with a swimming pool, nature center and the other standard RV park amenities such as a dump station and showers.

If you’re looking to boondock, Kettle Pond State Park in the Groton State Forest is an excellent option, far off the beaten path. Their website advertises “Enjoy rocky tree-covered hillsides, moss filled forests and small lakes and ponds seemingly untouched by human development. Aside from spending your days exploring the small pond, the area offers numerous hiking trails including a favorite trek up to the top of Owl’s Head Overlook for an incredible view of the surrounding area.” Not all of the 26 lean to’s spread around the pond are accessible by vehicle, so be sure to show up early. Refill on water and take a shower at the nearby New Discovery State Park

North Beach Campground isn’t your typical rural Vermont experience, it’s tucked onto the shore of Vermont’s largest city, Burlington. A prime beachfront location, hang out in the sand for awhile before walking the Burlington Pike Path into the city for a great meal. The 137 sites for RVs and tents have both full and partial hookups, with bathrooms available at the beach.
