What Are Airstream® Trailers Made Of?
Even if you don’t know what they’re called, you know an Airstream when you see one. They’ve got a distinct look that no other RV brand has—like a silver bullet—and you might be wondering how they get that iconic look.
Well, perhaps not so surprisingly, Airstream RVs are made from treated aluminum alloy. That’s what gives them that shiny, silver finish. There are a couple of benefits to choosing aluminum as the primary material. It’s typically more lightweight, so it’s easier to transport and facilitates better fuel economy. On top of that, Airstream treats each sheet of metal so it’s resistant to UV rays, mold, discoloration, cracking, flaking, and pulverization. And, in case you were concerned, the white enamel roof prevents the trailer from heating up too quickly so you can stay cool and comfortable.
More recently, Airstream has also started looking into other types of building materials. Namely, one of the most recent additions to the product lineup is made of fiberglass. Fiberglass retains that same durability and lightweight quality you get from an aluminum trailer, with a sportier exterior that you just might fall in love with at first sight.
Where Do Airstream® Trailers Come From?
Airstream history dates back to the late 1920s when founder Wally Byam built his first trailer. He wouldn’t coin the name Airstream until 1934. Over the years, the company has played an important role in America’s passion for outdoor exploration. They helped stimulate a number of camping booms, thanks to their affordable, easy-to-use, comfortable trailers.
Today, after a number of moves, Airstream’s facilities are located in Ohio, where these trailers are built and assembled by dedicated workers so you can enjoy your camper faster and with the assurance that it’s up to standard.
What Can You Expect from a Standard Airstream® Trailer?
The better question might be what can’t you expect from an Airstream? The company offers a wide range of options to suit a number of different camping styles. While they’ve historically been more geared toward off-the-beaten-path kind of camping, there are many models today that come with more luxurious features, including a wet bar and active tire pressure monitoring systems.
Not to mention, you’ll become part of an amazing family. Owning an Airstream can immediately connect you to all sorts of fellow campers, all of whom you can bet are on the same page as you when it comes to outdoor adventures. Plus, there’s the Airstream Club International specifically for Airstream enthusiasts and inspired by the many journeys of the beloved founder. Enjoy exclusive deals and meetups to expand your network of friends and fellow camping enthusiasts. All because you chose an Airstream.
